My name is Angelica Bucardo and I moved to Miami seven years ago. Since I was 12 years old, I wanted to study Business Management, this dream took me to FIU. In 2014, I started my Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a major in Management. The Global Medallion Program allowed me to live experiences that made a change in my personal life as Mother and in my business career. As business owner, I feel the duty to be supportive of our community problems and to act in causes that can significantly impact our future generations. In my future of pursuing a Master Degree in Human Resources Management, I will have the compromise to understand and care about the employees mainly their human side that most employees don't value.

Volunteering

I was a lot of my time on CWS which is an organization that works with refugees by helping them thru their transition in the U.S.. While there I had the chance to see real people struggling with the language, trying to find jobs/ My job as volunteer was to organize all the donations that were provided to most of those new immigrants. This organization and every staff member that worked close to me while I was there, opened me their hearts and I felt part of the family. Also, other volunteer experience was serving packages of food in the city of Sweetwater.

Social Events

As part of the program you have the opportunity to raise awareness of those global issues that most of the time are ignored. But, as a global citizen you will be able to raise your voice thru Fundraising events: where you will have some fun and eat with all the global team by sharing your opinion about different issues. By the other side, you will be part of diverse contest where you can show the reality of your native country or any experience as Internships or study abroad; I was glad I could be part of a photo contest  reality of children's in Nicaragua. In case, you are more business and technology minded you can be part of other activities such Emerge Americas as volunteer you can learn and share with other world leaders about the new world ahead.

Conferences

Every single week you will have the opportunity to join different conferences about global issues that should be a red light in our lives. Part of my favorites conferences were related to Violence in Latin America and forums about the Abuse of Power from Police Officers. At the same time, Honesty and Integrity are part of the core values of FIU, and part of the global medallion is to help students understand this thru films like "The Emperor's Club".

If I had only one hour to save the world, I would spend fifty-five minutes defining the problem, and only five minutes finding the solution.

THE GEOGRAPHY OF NACATAMAL

In the GEA200 course, we had to choose a typical food from our country of Origin, then we had to analyze each ingredient origin and show the regions involved thru the creation of the food map.

As business student, I have always been aware of global issues. However, I was never willing to get information and to participate in activities that help the prevention of those issues. During the program, I could understand that issues as violence, immigration and education are present every day, no matter the country or the race, the solution to these problems are in our hands. As business owner, I can make a difference by recycling the left-over material used in my business, or by volunteering in the activities of the community as: delivering food or giving school backpacks for kids.

Most people, know about violence issues but they still playing the car horn or scream to each other while in traffic, and they don’t realize this could be the beginning of a violent act. Global issues cannot be eradicated at all, but they can be improved thru prevention. As business student, I am planning to still volunteer for activities after graduation. I am willing to be part of the change by taking the last Friday of the month and help the city of Sweetwater to distribute food, or sharing with friends in fundraising events. At the same time, I will pursue graduate school and I would love to invest part of my time with global students by sharing experiences and creating conscience on campus about the global issues and how this program helped me to understand them.

Success! Message received.
